Honor 300 Ultra: The Strongest Honor Number Series Ever, Setting a New Benchmark for Slim and Powerful Imaging Flagships
The Honor number series is renowned for its slim bodies and exceptional imaging capabilities. The previous generation, the Honor 200, set a new benchmark in the imaging field with its impressive YaGu light and shadow technology. Half a year later, the Honor 300 series makes a strong comeback, achieving comprehensive evolution in imaging, screen, performance, and appearance. Undoubtedly, it's become the most powerful Honor number series phone in history. Before its release, Honor CEO Zhao Ming praised it highly, calling it "stunningly beautiful, with no rivals in its class" and "the most powerful Honor number series ever," demonstrating his confidence in the product. Notably, the Honor 300 series launched a standard version, a Pro version, and an Ultra version the first Ultra version in Honor's history. The Ultra version boasts significant improvements in imaging, performance, and overall configuration, generating high anticipation. I had the opportunity to experience the Camellia White Honor 300 Ultra for several days, and my impressions are detailed below.
I. Exterior Design: Elegant Chinese Style, Slim and Beautiful
The Honor 300 Ultra is only 8.2mm thick and weighs just 198g, boasting an astonishingly slim profile. Its design features a new Camellia White color scheme inspired by traditional Chinese aesthetics. The delicate texture of the back panel resembles soft camellia petals, adding a touch of elegance and sophistication.
The front features a 6.78-inch 2700 x 1224 resolution screen with a peak brightness of 4000 nits, ensuring clear visibility even under direct sunlight a true sun screen. It also incorporates flagship-level ultrasonic 3D fingerprint unlocking, enabling quick unlocking even with wet hands.
The screen also excels in eye protection. It supports circularly polarized light technology, converting screen light into a closer approximation of natural light, reducing eye strain. Furthermore, it supports 3840Hz ultra-high-frequency PWM dimming, further minimizing screen flicker in low-light conditions. Combined with Honor's unique Oasis eye protection technology, it provides comprehensive eye care through both software and hardware, reaffirming Honor's leading position in screen eye protection.
II. Performance: Powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, Smooth Gaming Experience
The Honor 300 Ultra utilizes the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor with a clock speed of up to 3.05GHz. Its "1+5+2" octa-core architecture, incorporating one 3.05GHz Cortex-X4 core, five 2.96GHz Cortex-A720 cores, and two 2.04GHz Cortex-A520 cores, along with the Adreno 750 GPU, ensures powerful performance, easily handling demanding games.
- To demonstrate its performance, we tested several popular mobile games, including Honor of Kings, Peace Elite, Genshin Impact, and Honkai: Star Rail. For these tests, we enabled the Honor 300 Ultra's performance mode to maximize performance output.
- In Peace Elite, at smooth settings, the frame rate remained stable at around 120fps, averaging 119.2fps, resulting in an exceptionally smooth gaming experience. The maximum back temperature reached only 37.2C, showcasing excellent heat dissipation.
- In Honor of Kings, at the highest graphics settings, the frame rate consistently remained at 120fps, running smoothly with a maximum back temperature of 36.9C.
- Even with the high-load game Genshin Impact, at the highest graphics settings, the average frame rate during Natlan exploration reached 59.05fps, running smoothly without noticeable lag. The maximum back temperature reached 42C, within the normal temperature range for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor.
- In Honkai: Star Rail, with all effects enabled and continuous combat in Simulated Universe, the average frame rate reached 57.5fps, comparable to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and Dimensity 9200, with a maximum back temperature of 41.1C.
Overall, the Honor 300 Ultra's performance is sufficient for daily use and demanding games, with satisfying game stability and heat dissipation.
III. Imaging System: Periscope Telephoto in a Slim Body, YaGu Light and Shadow Enhanced
The Honor 300 Ultra's imaging system is equally impressive. Its main camera uses a 50-megapixel Sony IMX906 sensor, a 1/1.56-inch CMOS, supporting all-scene YaGu light and shadow and YaGu portrait modes, and equipped with OIS and EIS dual anti-shake, resulting in clear and sharp images.
The telephoto lens also uses a 50-megapixel Sony IMX858 sensor, supporting 3.8x and 7.6x commonly used focal lengths, with a maximum 100x digital zoom, capturing clear details even at long distances.
In addition, it features a 112 ultra-wide-angle lens, providing a 0.6x wider field of view for capturing expansive scenes.
Actual sample photos show that the main camera produces images with strong light and shadow effects and moderate saturation, resulting in pleasing images; the telephoto lens has a bluer tone, with sharp images in low light and higher saturation in bright light; the night mode excels at high-light suppression while retaining details in darker areas; the YaGu portrait mode accurately captures facial expressions and emotions, faithfully reproducing light and shadow details for high-quality portraits; and the ultra-wide-angle lens also delivers excellent results with strong light and shadow effects and good control of edge detail.
The Honor 300 Ultra's imaging system achieves powerful imaging capabilities in a slim body, easily handling both everyday shooting and professional creation.
IV. Battery Life and Charging: 5300mAh Large Battery, 100W Fast Charging
The Honor 300 Ultra houses a large 5300mAh battery, coupled with Honor's excellent power consumption control technology, resulting in outstanding battery life.
Using the Battery Dog professional battery life testing tool, we simulated real-world usage scenarios, including high CPU pressure, multi-threaded CPU operations, AI recognition, image browsing, video playback, and web browsing. The results showed that the Honor 300 Ultra lasted 7 hours and 26 minutes from 100% to 20% battery, translating to approximately 9.5 hours of full-battery life excellent for a slim phone, easily lasting a full day of typical use.
In terms of charging, the Honor 300 Ultra supports 100W wired fast charging and 80W wireless fast charging. In tests, charging from 1% to 35% took only 10 minutes, 81% in half an hour, and a full charge took just 43 minutes, significantly reducing charging time.
V. Conclusion: A New Benchmark for Slim Flagships, Worth Buying
After several days of use, the Honor 300 Ultra has pleasantly surprised us. It offers a slim body, an outstanding imaging system, powerful performance, an eye-protective screen, and ultra-fast charging speed, with virtually no significant drawbacks. In particular, the elegant Chinese design aesthetic and slim body are cleverly integrated, making it not only highly functional but also aesthetically pleasing and artistic.
