On the second day of the 2025 New Year, the highly anticipated Xiaomi Redmi Turbo 4 was officially released, marking a strong start for the Redmi brand in 2025. Wang Teng, General Manager of Redmi, previously stated that the Redmi Turbo 4 is positioned as a trendy, high-performance flagship, balancing excellent aesthetics and powerful capabilities. Within the Redmi product line, the K series continues to expand into the high-end market, while the Turbo series is dedicated to providing next-generation performance flagship products for young users. The Redmi Turbo 4 globally premieres the MediaTek Dimensity 8400-Ultra processor and features comprehensive upgrades in design, battery, and reliability. As Wang Teng mentioned, this phone has almost no weaknesses, offering performance comparable to flagship models. IT Home has acquired this new phone and will now provide a first-hand in-depth experience review.

I. Design

The Redmi Turbo 4's design is relatively restrained yet unique. Its restraint lies in its simple design language: a flat front and back, paired with a small straight-edged frame and a vertically arranged dual-camera setup, giving it a neat and pure appearance. Compared to other phones emphasizing performance, the Redmi Turbo 4's design is quite understated, but it avoids blindly following trends and retains its own characteristics.

The Redmi Turbo 4's individuality is reflected in its two-tone back cover design. It uses a sandblasted frosted glass material, providing a silky smooth feel. The body adopts a two-tone design, with a dense diamond grid texture adorning the side with the Redmi logo, enhancing visual appeal and creating high recognizability.

The camera decorative ring is made of metal, with two lenses arranged in sequence. Hidden within the lenses are "twister dual ring lights," supporting charging indication, music rhythm, etc. This breathing light design is quite popular with some consumers, considered as important as an AOD screen display. The Redmi Turbo 4's light ring not only improves the phone's aesthetics but also enhances its practicality when the phone is placed on a table, notifications or incoming calls immediately attract the user's attention, without being too glaring yet effectively alerting the user.

In the settings, the Redmi Turbo 4 also provides customization options, such as setting incoming call reminders, music rhythm, and application notifications. However, in the current version (2.0.3.7), application notifications can only select one app, and the light effects cannot be customized. However, there's no need to worry; more customization options will be provided via OTA updates after the official product launch.

Due to its positioning, the Redmi Turbo 4's frame still uses plastic material, but the sandblasting treatment is very fine. Considering that most users will use a phone case, and at this price point, investing the saved cost in configurations offers better value, the plastic frame is not a significant drawback.

In terms of details, the top of the Redmi Turbo 4's frame has an infrared sensor and speaker openings, while the bottom has the SIM card slot, charging port, and speaker openings. The right side of the frame features the power button and volume buttons, while the left side remains clean and uncluttered, providing a neat visual effect.

The Redmi Turbo 4 also upgrades its drop-resistant body structure, boasting enhanced reliability and supporting IP66, IP68, and IP69K protection ratings, achieving a "waterproof grand slam." Other detailed configurations include an under-display fingerprint sensor, NFC, dual speakers, a linear motor, dual-frequency GPS, and tri-band Beidou navigation.

The front features a 6.67-inch OLED screen with a 1.5K resolution and LTPS technology. The screen boasts 500nit typical brightness, 1400nit full-screen peak brightness, and 3200nit local peak brightness, supporting a 120Hz refresh rate and 480Hz touch sampling rate (2560Hz instantaneous touch sampling rate). The screen has 12-bit color depth, supports HDR10+ and wet-hand touch, and supports Xiaomi's QingShan eye protection technology, including 1920Hz high-frequency PWM dimming and quasi-DC dimming technology.

In terms of screen design, the Redmi Turbo 4 adopts a flat design with slightly curved edges. When the screen is on, the top, left, and right bezels are visually narrow, while the chin is slightly wider, but considering its price point, this is acceptable.

The Redmi Turbo 4's body thickness is 8.4mm (including screen protector), and it weighs over 200g (including screen protector). Compared to the previous generation, the weight has increased, but considering the battery capacity increase to 6500mAh (1500mAh more than the Turbo 3) and the comprehensive upgrades in configuration and reliability, the weight increase is perfectly acceptable.

In terms of accessories, the Redmi Turbo 4 includes a 90W charger (A to C interface), a protective case, and a SIM card ejector pin.

II. Performance

On November 23, 2024, MediaTek officially launched the Dimensity 8400 all-large-core processor at its MediaTek Dimensity chip new product launch conference. Redmi announced at the conference that the Redmi Turbo 4 would be the world's first to premiere the Dimensity 8400-Ultra processor. In terms of specifications, the Dimensity 8400-Ultra is identical to the Dimensity 8400. The "Ultra" naming can be understood as the result of a "joint definition" by Redmi, MediaTek, and ARM, meaning Redmi has optimized and refined the Dimensity 8400 even further.

The biggest highlight of the Dimensity 8400 is its all-large-core design, matching the Dimensity 9000 series flagship chips. It is equipped with eight A725 CPU large cores, double the L2 cache, a 50% increase in L3 cache, and a 25% increase in system cache. Geekbench 6.2 multi-core score is as high as 6722 points. The Dimensity 8400 is the world's first to use the Cortex-A725 all-large-core architecture, with a 10% increase in single-core performance and a 35% reduction in power consumption.

Specifically, the Dimensity 8400 is built using TSMC's 4nm process and includes one 3.25GHz A725 core, three 3.0GHz A725 cores, and four 2.1GHz A725 cores all A725 large cores. AnTuTu V10.3 score can reach 1,806,141 points, and the multi-core CPU power consumption is reduced by 44% compared to the previous generation Dimensity 8300.

In terms of GPU, the Dimensity 8400 uses the Arm Mali-G720 GPU, with a 24% increase in peak performance and a 42% reduction in power consumption compared to the previous generation. It also supports hardware ray tracing and variable rate shading, with a 40% bandwidth optimization. In the sub-flagship market, the Dimensity 8400's GPU performance is unprecedented.

So, how does the Redmi Turbo 4 perform in reality? IT Home used benchmarking software such as AnTuTu and Geekbench for testing. The Geekbench 6 score was 1655 points for single-core and 6592 points for multi-core. The AnTuTu score exceeded 1.81 million points. The storage test (IT Home's test model is the 16GB+512GB version) scored 240,000 points, reaching the level of UFS 4.0.

Compared to the Dimensity 8300, the Redmi Turbo 4 shows improved single-core performance and a significant boost in multi-core performance, even approaching the multi-core scores of some Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processors. Considering its price point, this performance is exceptional.

In the 3DMark test, the Redmi Turbo 4 scored 12,874 points, with 87.3% stability after 20 rounds of stress testing, demonstrating excellent performance release.

For game testing, we used Genshin Impact. With the highest graphics settings and 60fps enabled, we conducted a 20-minute game test in the Sumeru City scene (monitored using Perfdog). The results showed an average frame rate of 59.6fps and a stable frame rate index of 0.9. The Redmi Turbo 4 can easily handle high-load game scenes like Genshin Impact, with the frame rate remaining stable at around 60fps during gameplay, with occasional slight fluctuations during scene transitions, but these are almost imperceptible to the naked eye. The average power consumption was 5.6W, and the highest body temperature was approximately 42C (located in the camera
