Samsung Galaxy S25 Series Guangzhou Appreciation Event: AI Seamlessly Integrated, Ubiquitous in the Mobile Experience
Guangzhou's weather is notoriously unpredictable. One moment you're basking in the comfortable 30-degree Celsius temperatures following what felt like a prolonged winter, the next you're facing a deluge of rain accompanied by thunderous roars, signaling the arrival of the rainy season. March in Guangzhou was characterized by a gloomy sky seemingly weighing down everyone's spirits, even the earth appeared weary. Yet, Samsung remained vibrant, hosting a new product appreciation event on March 4th amidst the humid Guangzhou air, showcasing the highly anticipated Samsung Galaxy S25 series and other new products. Lei Technology was fortunate enough to be invited, engaging in in-depth discussions with Samsung staff to gain a comprehensive understanding of their new vision for AI-powered smartphones.
This event highlighted numerous selling points of the S25 series that had not been previously emphasized, providing a deeper understanding of the features and usage of this new generation of Samsung flagship products. The upgraded "Galaxy AI" and the new Bixby were particularly impressive, re-energizing me and prompting me to share the details with you all.
Minimalist and Rugged, Understated and Elegant Design Aesthetics
Let's start with the product itself. It's rare to experience such a complete Samsung flagship lineup at once. Having previously only reviewed the Ultra model, I naturally wanted to explore the other devices thoroughly.
The Samsung Galaxy S25 series continues the design language of previous generations, maintaining a minimalist and rugged overall appearance. The S25 and S25+ utilize the familiar flat-screen design with minimal changes in specifications and appearance. However, the S25 Ultra features noticeably narrower bezels, appearing even more extreme than the S25, showcasing a truly "all-screen" front. The back features the iconic vertically aligned camera array, this time enhanced with a record-player-style decorative ring, boosting its recognizability. The connection between the rear cover and the metal frame is exceptionally solid, reflecting the meticulous quality control and refined feel.
As Samsung stated, the S25 series is the thinnest S series ever, with all three models being 0.4mm thinner and lighter than their predecessors. The S25 weighs a mere 162 grams. In comparison, my main phone last year, the 6.2-inch Xiaomi 14, weighed 193 grams.
The hands-on experience was particularly impressive with the 6.2-inch S25. The aluminum alloy frame feels excellent, and the near 70mm width and 162-gram weight provide an almost unreal lightness. The streamlined, integrated design makes one-handed operation effortless, making it arguably the most refined small-screen Android flagship on the market.
Regarding colors, I personally prefer the Warm Coral Red. It's not a vibrant crimson but rather a deeper pink, distinct from the orange-yellow hues of previous Pixel series Coral colors a unique and energetic shade. The Deep Ocean Blue seen at the event was also exceptional.
In terms of specifications, the Samsung Galaxy S25 series, equipped with the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy, easily achieved high benchmark scores in the event environment. Thanks to the larger VC vapor chamber, heat dissipation and stability have also been significantly improved. For more detailed specifications, please refer to my previous in-depth review; I won't elaborate further here.
Unlocking New AI Experiences: Multimodal and Cross-Application Execution
Beyond experiencing the Samsung Galaxy S25 series, the appreciation event focused on exploring how Samsung leverages AI to enhance the user experience and productivity of its flagship phones.
According to official information, the upgraded Galaxy AI, powered by strong AI computing capabilities, innovative AI applications, and the new Samsung One UI 7, better understands user needs. Its multimodal sensing and cross-application execution capabilities deliver efficient and personalized services, transforming the phone into an AI partner for users.
The first key term here is "multimodal." Unlike previous Galaxy AI, which only accepted and processed text/voice input (like a robot confined to a dark room communicating through letters unable to speak, move, or see), the multimodal system can process multiple types of information simultaneously, including text, images, and sound. This is similar to how humans understand the world through sight, hearing, speech, etc., combining this information to complete more complex tasks.
For example, I randomly opened Bixby during the event and asked it to identify the drink I was consuming. It correctly identified milk and provided three potentially relevant suggestions. I then asked it to identify the bottled water being distributed. The new Bixby recognized it as Dasani and correctly distinguished it from the Pepsi Pure Water also provided. I subsequently searched for images of Dasani packaging and found a high degree of similarity, making any misidentification understandable.
Beyond the new Bixby, the Samsung S25 series extensively utilizes multimodal capabilities. For example, a bottom popup appears when taking a screenshot. In addition to the usual editing or sharing buttons, it includes an "AI Multi-Screenshot" function. This function anticipates the user's subsequent actions and provides relevant options. When a user selects a note containing time and location information, the AI quickly and accurately identifies it and automatically displays options such as "Save to Calendar."
This is also the best demonstration of the second keyword, "cross-application execution." In addition to using the new Bixby to control multiple applications, the familiar "Smart Select" function allows users to circle content on any screen to initiate a high-quality search result, further analyzing and predicting intent to save steps. Even background music from a video can be accurately identified via "Smart Select," with the capability to automatically extract the video content to create a GIF for sharing.
The Samsung S25 series also officially incorporates the highly anticipated DeepSeek. Users can pin the DeepSeek plugin on the leftmost home screen through the "SmartThings" app or ask the new Bixby to deep-think and use DeepSeek-R1. When I asked if it knew about "Lei Technology," its answer was quite accurate.
In terms of One UI 7, beyond the more rounded icon design, the redesigned control center is also more rounded. Samsung has also added the Now Bar "Live Window" to the system, displaying notifications, music, timers, and recordings on the lock screen. Multiple live windows can be stacked, and clicking on them will enlarge them, facilitating access to more information and operations.
Conclusion: AI Seamlessly Integrated, Ubiquitous in the Mobile Experience
While Samsung's previous domestic launch focused on introducing the new selling points of the Galaxy S25 series, today's media appreciation event provided a hands-on experience of the S25 series' appeal, particularly the unique philosophy of the upgraded Galaxy AI and its new practical features.
Based on the hands-on experience, the Galaxy S25 series remains a highly polished flagship series, demonstrating comprehensive and highly competitive design and interaction, creating immense anticipation for the ultra-thin S25 Edge.
In terms of functionality, the S25 series seamlessly integrates AI into various aspects of smartphone usage, transforming AI from a "new feature" into an integral part of the phone. Unlike domestic phones that provide a fixed AI dialog box interface, the S25 series distributes AI functions across various usage scenarios, leveraging the user-friendly interaction spearheaded by the new Bixby, the proactive AI multi-screenshot functionality that anticipates user needs, exceptional cross-application integration, and even the inclusion of DeepSeek.
The best technology is technology you don't notice. The Samsung Galaxy S25 series is striving towards that goal.
