Yesterday, Huawei officially launched the highly anticipated PuraX foldable phone. This new device, boasting exceptional hardware and a full integration of HarmonyOS 5, marks Huawei's complete transition to the Hongmeng ecosystem for its consumer devices. The PuraX is available in Moon Shadow Gray, Zero-Degree White, and Phantom Black, as well as the more distinctive Style Red and Style Green collector's edition colors, starting at 7499.

The PuraX features a 6.3-inch 16:10 aspect ratio inner screen with a resolution of 2120x1320, supporting a 1-120Hz LTPO 2.0 adaptive refresh rate and a peak brightness of 2500 nits. HDR Vivid high dynamic display and 1440Hz PWM dimming further enhance the visual experience. Its 3.5-inch 1:1 aspect ratio outer screen boasts a 980x980 resolution, mirroring the refresh rate and other parameters of the inner screen for convenient information access.

As the first phone fully equipped with HarmonyOS 5, the PuraX showcases the power of the Hongmeng ecosystem. It supports second-generation Lingxi communication (5A speed) for faster and more stable network connectivity, and features Beidou satellite communication capabilities, maintaining connectivity even in areas without terrestrial network coverage. The PuraX houses a 4720mAh high-silicon anode battery and supports 66W wired fast charging and 40W wireless fast charging, effectively addressing user concerns about battery life.

Huawei has publicly released the PuraX's repair part pricing, providing users with transparent after-sales service information. The flexible screen assembly is priced at 1299, while the outer screen assembly costs 699. Flexible screen components offer different price points: 1799 (special offer), 2399 (discount), and 3019. Additionally, the battery is priced at 199, special offer boards start at 2339, and mainboards start at 3299. The back cover (lower) is 209, the front camera is 269, and rear camera prices vary by model: telephoto lens 279, red maple original color camera 299, wide-angle lens 369, and main camera 539.

Huawei customer service has confirmed that the PuraX supports StarFlash Find and power-off find features. StarFlash Find is available out-of-the-box, while power-off find requires an upgrade to HarmonyOS 5.0.1.105 or later.

At the PuraX launch event, Huawei's Executive Director, Chairman of the Consumer Business Group, and Chairman of the Smart Automotive Solutions Business Unit, announced that Huawei's consumer devices will fully embrace the Hongmeng ecosystem. This means that future Huawei smartphones, tablets, wearables, and other new products will come pre-installed with HarmonyOS. Huawei plans to launch Hongmeng computers powered by HarmonyOS NEXT in May and is actively collaborating with ecosystem partners to build a more comprehensive Hongmeng ecosystem.

Previous reports indicated that after the expiry of Intel and Microsoft licenses, Huawei would fully transition to self-developed PC products. The design guidelines on Huawei's HarmonyOS developer website now include a "Hongmeng PC version" page layout, with compatible applications spanning various categories like multimedia, social media, photography, reading, shopping, finance, lifestyle, and transportation, further confirming Huawei's commitment to the PC market. Yu Chengdong previously hinted at the launch of PCs powered by the Hongmeng operating system.

While the specific form of HarmonyOS NEXT on PCs hasn't been revealed, design specifications offer clues. The "Hongmeng PC version" design borrows from existing smartphone and tablet status bar designs, displaying status information in the upper right corner. The bottom features an application dock similar to macOS, allowing users to quickly access frequently used applications and functions. The HarmonyOS 2-in-1 device application design guidelines showcase various application UI interfaces, including efficient and immersive styles, providing multiple interface examples such as a weather app and file explorer, demonstrating Hongmeng's design philosophy for PC applications.

With Huawei's various terminal systems unified under HarmonyOS, the overall ecosystem experience will be significantly enhanced, resulting in a smoother, more convenient, and more integrated user experience. This is undoubtedly a significant and exciting change for users. The launch of the Huawei PuraX not only represents the birth of a flagship foldable phone but also marks a significant step in Huawei's journey to build the Hongmeng ecosystem.
