Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 to Launch in Early April: 4nm Process, Over 2 Million Antutu Score, Multiple Flagship Phones Incoming
Fast Technology reported on March 25th that a well-known digital blogger, Digital Chat Station, revealed that Qualcomm's next-generation flagship mobile platform, the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4, will be officially released in early April. The first batch of devices equipped with this chip will also be launched in April. This means that new flagship phones powered by the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 will soon hit the market, bringing users a more powerful performance experience.
Reportedly, the first models to adopt the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 include several highly anticipated flagship phones, such as the Redmi Turbo 4 Pro, iQOO Z10 Turbo Pro, Xiaomi Civi 5 Pro, and OPPO K13 Pro, indicating that the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 will quickly gain a significant market share.
The release of the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 provides consumers with more choices in high-end smartphones. Unlike previous generations, the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 doesn't utilize Qualcomm's self-developed Oryon CPU architecture, opting instead for an Arm public architecture. This may have shortened the chip's development cycle, enabling faster market entry and fulfilling consumer demand for high-performance mobile chips.
In terms of specifications, the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 is built using TSMC's 4nm process. Its CPU architecture consists of one 3.21GHz X4 core, three 3.01GHz A720 cores, two 2.80GHz A720 cores, and two 2.02GHz A720 cores. Compared to the previous generation Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 removes two A520 small cores, simplifying the core architecture and improving energy efficiency. It also integrates the Adreno 825 GPU, significantly enhancing graphics processing capabilities.
Regarding cache, the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 features 6MB of SLC cache and 8MB of L3 cache. Compared to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 for Galaxy (often referred to as Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+) with its 8MB SLC cache, the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4's 6MB SLC cache might slightly impact the speed of some high-performance applications, but the overall performance improvement remains significant.
In Antutu benchmark tests, the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 achieved a score exceeding 2 million, surpassing the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and closely matching the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. This indicates that the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 will provide users with a smooth and efficient mobile experience, meeting the performance demands of daily use and demanding games.
Although the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 has subtle differences from the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 in some specifications, such as core architecture and cache size, its overall performance is still excellent. The choice of Arm's public architecture and the 4nm process, while ensuring performance, may also reduce production costs, which is undoubtedly good news for consumers.
The official launch in early April and the subsequent appearance of equipped models throughout April indicate that the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 will quickly enter the market and become the "heart" of numerous flagship phones. Consumers can expect phones equipped with the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 to offer more powerful performance, a smoother user experience, and more competitive pricing. The release of the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 not only injects new vitality into Qualcomm's product line but also brings a new competitive landscape to the entire mobile phone market. Let's wait and see how phones equipped with the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 will change the mobile experience. We believe this chip will surprise users in terms of both performance and cost-effectiveness. Its launch also marks the continuous progress of mobile chip technology, providing users with more powerful mobile computing capabilities.
