网站描述：甘肃农业大学的前身是1946年10月创建于兰州的国立兽医学院，是当时国内唯一的兽医高等学府，首任院长为我国著名兽医学家、兽医教育家及现代兽医学奠基人之一盛彤笙院士。1950年，学校更名为西北兽医学院；1951年，更名为西北畜牧兽医学院。在建校之初，一批留学海外的学者放弃优越的生活条件，来到祖国的西部，立志于祖国畜牧兽医事业，开创了我国畜牧兽医高等教育事业的崭新局面，培养了我国第一批畜牧兽医事业的高级专门人才，造就了一大批国际、国内知名的专家学者。
