网站描述：湖南生物机电职业技术学院是由湖南省农业厅主办主管的一所全日制公办普通高等院校，是湖湘大地唯一一所具有百年办学历史和深厚文化底蕴的高职学院。世界著名杂交水稻专家袁隆平院士为我院名誉院长。学院的前身“湖南私立修业学堂”始建于1903年。民主革命先驱黄兴曾以“修业学堂”体育教员的身份为掩护，创办了“华兴会”；开国领袖毛泽东曾以“修业学堂”历史教员的身份为掩护，为《湘江评论》撰写文章；著名教育家徐特立在“修业学堂”担任过10多年教员，曾慷慨激情断指血书“驱逐鞑虏，恢复中华”……辛亥革命的疾风暴雨、“修业学堂”创业的艰苦岁月，更兼老一辈革命家的言传身教，铸就了学院光荣的革命传统和厚重的文化底蕴。学院曾培育了毛泽覃、王首道、欧阳立安、沈其震等一大批国家栋梁之才。
