网站描述： 湖北大学地处华中重镇、九省通衢——湖北省武汉市，是湖北省属重点综合性大学。学校历史溯源于1931年创办的湖北省立教育学院，1944年，在著名学者李四光先生的推动下，改建为国立湖北师范学院。建国后，学校迭经改制和整合，先后历经了湖北省教育学院、湖北省教师进修学院、湖北师范专科学校、武汉师范专科学校和武汉师范学院等时期，1984年改制为湖北大学,实现了由单一师范学院向综合性大学的跨越。在办学历程中，湖北大学经历过筚路蓝缕的岁月，忍受过调整分合的阵痛，但湖大人百折不挠，艰苦奋斗，在逆境中谋发展，于艰难中创事业，学校的文化传统中逐渐积淀了“日思日睿、笃志笃行”的校训精神和以“自强不息、克难奋进”为基本特征的“习坎”精神，在人才培养、科学研究、服务社会等方面取得了明显成效。
