网站描述：中山大学是由孙中山先生亲手创立，有着一百多年办学传统的综合性重点大学。今日的中山大学，由1952年院系调整后分设的中山大学和中山医科大学合并组建而成。1835年，美国的伯驾医生在广州设立医局，培养了中国最早的西医医生，在此基础上建立了博济医院，并于1866年设立医学堂，这是中国最早的医学专科教育机构；1888年，由美国人开设的格致书院在广州开学，后发展为私立岭南大学，博济医院及其附设的医学校成为岭南大学医学院。博济医学堂和格致书院，开启了中国近代西式教育的先河。
