On May 18th, IT Home reported that according to SamMobile, Google announced the launch of Project Mainline for Android in 2019, which aims to separate key components of Android from the operating system itself. This method enables Google to provide updates directly to modules through PlayStore. This means that if Google releases updates to key operating system components, users do not have to wait for their phone manufacturer to include them in the next OTA system update, and can directly obtain upgrades from Google PlayStore.

So far, Google has decoupled many key components from Android, including Wi Fi, Bluetooth, and UWB. Now, Google is adopting the same approach for NFC. Mishaal Rahman discovered the relevant source code in AOSP (IT Home Note: Android Open Source Project), indicating that Google is making the NFC stack a Mainline module (separating it from the operating system), which will enable Google to quickly fix any issues with NFC components through updates provided by Google PlayStore.

According to Mishaal, the latest changes may not be included in the final version of Android 14. The method of making the NFC stack a Mainline module has just appeared in AOSP, which means it will be seen as soon as possible in Android 15.
