After exiting the mobile phone market, Kyocera invested 400 billion yen in betting on semiconductors

IT Home reported on May 21st that, according to NikkeiAsia, Kyocera announced earlier this month that it had officially withdrawn from its consumer oriented mobile phone business and now announced an investment of 400 billion yen (currently approximately 20.32 billion yuan) to bet on its semiconductor business.

Kyocera stated in its medium-term operating policy that its total investment over the next three years will reach 850 billion yen. Among them, 400 billion yen will be invested in its semiconductor department, which also means that Kyocera's investment in semiconductors is 2.3 times larger than the previous medium-term plan. Kyocera pointed out that the majority of the funds will be used to increase the production capacity of ceramic components for IC carrier boards and semiconductor manufacturing equipment, while the other part of the funds will be used to develop and mass produce advanced packaging technologies.

Kyocera will establish a new production facility in the park adjacent to Sony Semiconductor's Nagasaki factory next spring, which will be the first new factory established by Kyocera's semiconductor department in nearly 20 years. Kyocera expects that the annual output value of the factory after production will reach 25 billion yen. Earlier this week, IT Home reported that Kyocera's communication systems department, which specializes in smartphones, lost 11.7 billion yen last year and decided to withdraw from its consumer grade mobile phone business. In addition, the Japanese home appliance newcomer Bamuda mobile phone, manufactured by Kyocera, also announced this month that it will be discontinued due to high costs.
