On October 13th, local time on Thursday, American electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla announced that it will raise wages for employees at German super factories.

Previously, the German trade union organization stated that the wages of workers in Tesla's German factory were lower than the industry average. Tesla promised to notify employees of the salary increase in November this year and added that the company raised salaries by 6% last year.

Unlike other German automakers, Tesla's German factory does not have a collective bargaining agreement on employee wages.

According to last year's agreement, employees of Volkswagen, Mercedes Benz, and BMW will receive a salary increase of 5.2% in June 2023 and 3.3% in 2024, respectively, while providing full-time employees with an inflation subsidy of 3000 euros (approximately $3160).

The German Hardware Union (IGMetall) previously stated that Tesla employees' wages are about 20% lower than those stipulated in collective bargaining agreements.

Tesla currently employs approximately 11000 workers in its German factory. In order to double the production capacity of batteries and cars, the company needs to recruit more employees to drive its large-scale expansion plan starting in the first half of next year.

The German Hardware Union stated that Tesla informed workers at a series of meetings held at the factory this week that a salary increase was imminent.

One copy of the invitation letter shows that these meetings were held to alert employees to the "problematic methods" of the German Hardware Union. Previously, the German Hardware Union stated that it would go to the site to introduce union members to employees.

Tesla did not respond to an earlier request to comment on the meeting content. (Chen Chen)
