Some Pixel8 series users have received a problem machine unlocking the boot program

IT Home reported on October 22nd that recently, some users who purchased Pixel8 series phones reported on Reddit that their phone's boot loader was not locked. Unlocking the boot program is necessary for users who like to install custom firmware or want to obtain phone root permissions, but most Android phones default to locking the boot program. Unlocking the boot program usually causes the phone to lose its warranty rights and also makes personal data on the phone more susceptible to theft by attackers.

IT Home has noticed that there are not many Pixel8 and Pixel8Pro phones with this issue. A Reddit user said that he contacted Google customer service and suggested that he return his phone and exchange it for a new one. The user wrote in the post: "I received my Pixel8Pro today. As soon as I opened it, it showed me a warning to unlock the boot program. I continued with the settings, but contacted Google. Google suggested that I return the device and request a replacement

Another Reddit user also posted: Yesterday I received my new Pixel8 phone from GoogleFi, and upon opening it, I received the same boot program warning message as the owner. When I was young, I might have liked flashing, but for a brand new phone, it was too troublesome/risky. I contacted Fi customer service and they agreed to replace it for me. I also ordered one for my wife, and she had no issues. I am curious about how many phones have missed quality control . This is the first time I have encountered this issue with a Nexus/Pixel phone

Users who receive a Pixel8 series phone with an unlocked boot program will receive the following message on the first boot: 'The boot program has been unlocked and software integrity cannot be guaranteed. Any data stored on the device may be accessed by an attacker. Please do not store any sensitive data on the device.'

More than a decade ago, users might feel lucky if they discovered that their phone had an unlocked boot program, but now the number of people flashing has significantly decreased. And with most mobile phone users storing personal data on their phones, security issues seem more important than further customizing their phones.
