On October 28th, IT Home reported that Park Yong in, CEO of Samsung SystemLSI, recently confirmed that,Starting from next year, satellite services for emergency contact will be supportedSuggest that the Galaxy S24 series phones launched next year support bidirectional satellite communication.

Samsung revealed a few months ago that it has developed a method for implementing bidirectional satellite connectivity for smartphones, which may be applied to the Galaxy S24 model. However, it is currently unclear whether this feature is applicable to all Galaxy S24 series phones, or whether it is limited to the Galaxy S24 Ultra models in this series.

IT Home reported in August this year that South Korea's Minister of Science, Technology, Information and Communication, Lee Chung ho, stated in an interview with Yonhap News that domestic smartphone brands in South Korea are expected to launch a service next year that enables data transmission between 5G smartphones and satellites.

Due to Samsung being the only major smartphone brand in South Korea (LG has closed its smartphone department), this suggests that Samsung may add satellite communication functionality to its phones next year.

Li Zhonghao said in an interview, "I cannot say for sure, but I know that the domestic industry is considering commercializing this service next year and looks forward to developing a standard related to satellite communication next year

The Snapdragon 8Gen2 used in Samsung's Galaxy S23 series of phones released this year can be connected to LEO (Low Earth Orbit) satellites to provide emergency call and message services, but the Galaxy S23 series does not support this feature.

Samsung explained earlier this year that the satellite communication ecosystem is not yet mature and will wait for the ecosystem to improve before launching related new features. It is reported that Samsung is collaborating with Iridium Communications, which has a low orbit satellite network for providing emergency communication services.
