Samsung is expected to launch its highly anticipated Galaxy S25 series early next year, and the series is rumored to bring some notable changes. In terms of aesthetics, we can expect a rounded design on the back, and the display might also be slightly larger. Internally, however, these devices are poised to see a significant performance boost thanks to the new Snapdragon 8 Gen4 chip.

However, recent reports suggest that while the top-of-the-line Galaxy S25 Ultra will feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen4 chip, the lower-priced standard S25 models are expected to utilize the MediaTek Dimensity 9400 chip. This news is significant as it marks the first time Samsung would be employing a non-Qualcomm or its own Exynos chip in its flagship lineup.

According to tipster ReveonX, the standard Galaxy S25 models will opt for the Dimensity chip instead of the Snapdragon chip. The reason behind this decision is likely due to rising component costs, particularly for chipsets. While Samsung initially planned to exclusively use the Snapdragon 8 Gen4 chip across its entire Galaxy S25 lineup, the latest news might come as a surprise to some fans.

The Dimensity 9400 chip boasts a unit cost of $155, significantly lower than the potential procurement cost of the Snapdragon 8 Gen4. It's even cheaper than Qualcomm's current top-of-the-line Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip, which has a unit cost of $200. This implies that Samsung could potentially offer its flagship phones at lower prices while maintaining their performance advantage.

It's important to note that both MediaTek and Qualcomm chips will be manufactured using TSMC's 3nm process, implying roughly comparable performance levels. Therefore, while the use of the Dimensity 9400 chip might lead to cost savings, it's not expected to affect the overall performance of the Galaxy S25.

The tipster also mentions that only one model in the Galaxy S25 series is expected to feature the Dimensity 9400 processor, potentially due to the smaller demand for the standard model compared to the "Plus" or "Ultra." Using the same chip across the entire series would incur additional costs.

However, it remains to be seen if Samsung will completely abandon Snapdragon chips in the long run. While the cost advantage with MediaTek chips is apparent, Samsung might still continue investing in its own Exynos chips and aim to make them the default option for its flagship lineup in the future.

Overall, Samsung's decision to use MediaTek chips in its Galaxy S25 series reflects its commitment to cost control. This move could not only reduce the final price of the phones but also potentially enable Samsung to maintain a stronger competitive edge in the fiercely competitive market. Moving forward, it will be interesting to see how Samsung leverages its technological prowess and manufacturing capabilities to create new possibilities in the chip market.
