Nikkei, in collaboration with Fomalhaut TechnoSolutions, conducted a material cost analysis of the Apple iPhone 16 Pro and Google Pixel 9 Pro, both priced at $999. The analysis revealed that the iPhone 16 Pro's material cost is $568, while the Pixel 9 Pro's material cost is only $406.

The analysis shows that the iPhone 16 Pro's material cost increased by 6% compared to the iPhone 15 Pro, accounting for 56.8% of its retail price. The research found that the iPhone 16 Pro utilizes a more expensive chip, estimated at $135, a 4% increase from the previous generation. This chip enables generative AI functionalities and supports a high-performance camera system. Additionally, the iPhone 16 Pro's screen costs $110, and the camera components total $91.

It's important to note that the analysis focused on the entry-level configurations of both smartphones for cost comparison purposes. These results are for reference only.
