Although Apple has controversy over this and differs from international testing, the French National Frequency Association (ANFR) claimed in September 2023 that the iPhone 12 exceeded the country's specific absorption rate (SAR) for radio frequency exposure.
Apple has released an updated version of iOS specifically for France, which will reduce the radio strength of mobile modems. In late September, French officials announced that they had approved Apple's updates and assumed that the ban and possible recalls would be lifted.
ANFR stated in a press release that this ban "will be abolished in France from today", but "it still maintains a ban on sales in some French territories".
