Google has boosted battery capacity and the Tensor G4 processor in its Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro XL, aiming for extended battery life. While the latest battery drain tests reveal that these phones haven't set new records in terms of endurance, they have surprised everyone with their exceptional heat management capabilities, outperforming competitors like the OnePlus 12, Galaxy S24 Ultra, and iPhone 15 Pro Max.

YouTube channel TechDroider conducted rigorous battery tests on the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and other flagship phones. They measured temperatures at different intervals during the tests to understand how hot each device got. The results are astounding.

The Pixel 8 Pro shut down first, lasting only 8 hours and 39 minutes. However, it registered the second lowest temperature among all flagship phones tested, reaching only 41.2 degrees Celsius. The Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro XL, equipped with 4700mAh and 5060mAh batteries respectively, despite the capacity difference, both ran out of power almost simultaneously, achieving a runtime of 10 hours and 25 minutes, a noticeable improvement over the Pixel 8 Pro. Remarkably, both phones recorded the lowest temperatures of all tested devices, hitting 40.9 degrees Celsius. Even more impressive, the Pixel 9, the only Google phone this year lacking a vapor chamber, achieved this feat.

Speaking of vapor chambers, the Galaxy S24 Ultra's robust cooling solution couldn't prevent it from reaching a scorching 50.4 degrees Celsius. However, the high temperature didn't affect its battery life, as it managed to last for 10 hours and 47 minutes. The iPhone 15 Pro Max, on the other hand, easily surpassed all competitors with a runtime of 11 hours and 44 minutes, registering a temperature of 44.6 degrees Celsius.

The Pixel 9 Pro XL's impressive low temperature performance was also evident in previous gaming performance tests. This year's Google flagship never crossed 37 degrees Celsius. However, this improvement was rendered nearly insignificant, as the Tensor G4 still lagged behind the Tensor G2 from two years ago when running Genshin Impact.

In essence, Google has successfully addressed the thermal issue within its flagship lineup. Now, it's all about performance optimization, which is likely to be addressed with the release of the Pixel 10 next year.
