Many people traditionally believe that high-end smartphones have the lowest market share, with a large number of users opting for mid-to-low-end models. While this might have been true in the past, the current situation is quite different. High-end sales are far exceeding industry predictions. Why is this happening? Because on September 17th, an industry insider known as Wisdom Chip Guide released data that breaks down the market share of different price segments in China from January to July. The data reveals that the segment above 6,000 yuan (approximately $880 USD) accounts for a staggering 18.7% of the market the highest among all price segments. Even more shocking is that the combined market share of the 3,000-6,000 yuan segments barely exceeds that of the segment above 6,000 yuan. Within this high-end segment, Apple accounts for 60% of sales, meaning Samsung and other Chinese brands together hold less than 40% of the market share. If we look at specific brands, Huawei is undoubtedly the biggest player in this segment, while other brands are struggling to gain a foothold.

This data clearly shows the power of domestic consumers: mid-to-low-end models are not selling as well as high-end models. This consumer psychology is actually the most rational and sensible approach. Take iPhones, for instance. While purchasing an iPhone can cost around 6,000 yuan or even more, its lifespan can extend to five years. Averaged out, that means an iPhone costs roughly 1,000 yuan per year. However, if you opt for an Android phone and replace it annually, what can you get for 1,000 yuan? A decent Android phone would cost you at least around 3,000 yuan, and its lifespan is bound to be shorter than an iPhone. Of course, a 4,000 yuan or even higher-priced Android device can also last for five years, but it hinges on whether the manufacturer can provide consistent software updates and support.

To further analyze the market, if we consider anything above 4,000 yuan as high-end, this segment holds a 31.1% market share in China. The mid-range segment (2,000-4,000 yuan) accounts for 24.4%, while the low-end segment (below 2,000 yuan) comprises 44.5%. This data suggests that the best-selling segment in China is the mid-to-low-end market, followed by flagship models. The mid-range segment, surprisingly, is the least popular.
