A recent report from Morgan Stanley suggests that the iPhone 16's delivery times are significantly shorter compared to previous generations, indicating that its popularity may not be meeting expectations. According to Morgan Stanley's analysis, as of September 24th, the average delivery time for the iPhone 16 in the US is only 15.2 days, a notable reduction from 25.7 days for the iPhone 15 and 18 days for the iPhone 14 at the same time last year.
Globally, the average delivery time for the iPhone 16 is also on a downward trend, at 16.3 days, compared to 28.5 days for the iPhone 15. Morgan Stanley stated, "When aggregating all iPhone delivery time data, the average time from pre-order to today for the iPhone 16 is 14 days, the shortest in any cycle over the past 5 years."
Delivery times for the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max are also shorter than their predecessors. In the US, the iPhone 16 Pro Max delivery time is 25.5 days, 18 days shorter than the iPhone 15 Pro Max, while the iPhone 16 Pro has a delivery time of 18.5 days.
The report also notes that early iPhone 16 buyers seem to be driven by the desire to upgrade from older models or by enhancements in battery life and the camera system, and not by Apple Intelligence features at this time.
Morgan Stanley's report suggests that the shortened delivery times of the iPhone 16 could indicate that consumer interest in the new model may be less than expected, possibly due to the lack of major upgrades introduced by Apple this year. In addition to product upgrades, the price increase of the iPhone 16 might also be impacting consumer buying decisions.
Despite the shorter delivery times, the iPhone 16 remains Apple's latest flagship phone, and its powerful performance and advanced features continue to attract many consumers. In the future, Apple will need to further monitor market response and make adjustments based on consumer demand.
