Recent reports suggest that Samsung may be making adjustments to its Galaxy S26 series lineup, potentially eliminating the standard model and launching only the large-screen flagship S26+ and the camera-focused flagship S26 Ultra. This news has garnered widespread attention as the Samsung Galaxy S series has long been recognized for its standard model's compact size and portability.

The rumored reason behind Samsung's decision to drop the standard model is the intense competition within the domestic small screen market, where Samsung's small-screen phones have lost their edge. As a reference point, Samsung released the new Galaxy Tab S10 series of tablets last month, but unlike previous years, there was no standard model. Only the premium Tab S10+ and Tab S10 Ultra were offered, a strategy that might be reflected in future Samsung flagship phones.

It's worth noting that the standard model of Samsung's Galaxy S series has consistently featured a compact 6.1-6.2-inch screen, generally praised for its comfortable grip. Sales figures from previous Galaxy S series phones reveal that the standard model has consistently outperformed its larger counterparts. Industry experts speculate that Samsung may not completely eliminate the standard model in the Galaxy S26 series, and it could still be released, albeit possibly not in the domestic market.

Beyond the potential removal of the standard model, other configuration details for the Samsung Galaxy S26 series have also surfaced. It's reported that the three models in the Samsung S25 series have already passed network certification and will be equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy chipset. Currently, only the Ultra version supports satellite communication, while the standard and Plus versions lack this feature.

The S25 supports 25W wired charging and packs a 4000mAh battery, while the S25+ and S25 Ultra support 45W wired charging and have battery capacities of 4900mAh and 5000mAh respectively. To enhance the Galaxy AI experience, the S25 is expected to come with a minimum of 8GB RAM, the S25+ will have 12GB as standard, and the S25 Ultra will return to the 16GB configuration.

Based on leaked images, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra appears similar to its predecessor, featuring narrower screen bezels and maintaining a minimalist design aesthetic. It will sport a centered punch-hole display with a selfie camera and a top-mounted earpiece. The metal frame surrounding the screen has been removed, resulting in more rounded corners, and the mid-frame is anticipated to be slimmer, potentially offering a more comfortable grip. The power and volume buttons will be located on the right side of the device.

While the leaked images don't confirm the specific camera specifications, the layout of five circular cutouts on the rear suggests a multi-camera setup. It is anticipated that Samsung's latest sensor technology will be incorporated. Reports indicate that the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra primarily focuses on upgrades to the ultrawide lens, equipping it with a 200MP H2 main sensor, a 50MP ISOCELL JN3 ultrawide lens, a 10MP IMX754 telephoto lens (3X), and a 50MP IMX584 telephoto lens (5X). In terms of dimensions, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra measures 162.82x77.65x8.25mm, slightly taller, narrower, and thinner than the S24 Ultra's 162.3x79x8.6mm dimensions.

On the interaction front, it's reported that Samsung is internally accelerating the development of the One UI 7.0 operating system, which will allow users to manage AOD and lock screen notifications separately and introduces a range of new One UI icons. In response to user feedback regarding notification icon modifications affecting lock screen settings and AOD wallpaper notification settings, industry insiders have stated that One UI 7.0 will address this issue.

Based on the current leaked information, the Samsung Galaxy S26 series hasn't definitively confirmed the cancellation of the small-screen version. However, it remains uncertain whether future models will prioritize large screens. Stay tuned for further developments.
