iPhone SE 4 Leaked: Upgraded OLED Display, Face ID Support, and Apple's First Self-Developed 5G Modem
Recently, renowned leaker Sonny Dickson released photos of a protective case for the fourth generation Apple iPhone SE (iPhone SE 4), reigniting interest in this new model. The leaked photos suggest that the iPhone SE 4's protective case resembles the current iPhone SE case in terms of appearance, featuring openings for a single camera and flash, a mute switch, and raised areas for volume buttons and the power button. However, the new-generation iPhone SE will be based on the iPhone 14's body design, making it larger than the current model.
It is reported that the iPhone SE 4 will feature a 6.1-inch OLED display, a significant upgrade from the current models 4.7-inch LCD screen. This means the iPhone SE 4 will offer a wider viewing experience and superior color performance and contrast. Additionally, the iPhone SE 4 will have the same notch design as the iPhone 14, eliminating the traditional physical Home button and supporting Face ID facial recognition for a more convenient unlocking experience.
Beyond the aesthetic changes, the iPhone SE 4 will also see hardware upgrades. According to leaks, it will come equipped with 8GB of RAM and support the new Apple Intelligence artificial intelligence technology, enhancing the user experience in applications and games. More importantly, the iPhone SE 4 will be equipped with Apple's first self-developed 5G modem, codenamed "Centauri," which supports Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS capabilities. This new modem is expected to significantly reduce battery consumption, particularly in low-power modes.
As Apple's first self-developed 5G modem, "Centauri" does have certain functional limitations. It is understood that it does not support millimeter wave (mmWave) technology, meaning that in some high-frequency network environments, the iPhone SE 4's 5G performance may be restricted. Nevertheless, this does not affect its normal operation in most 5G network environments.
Overall, the iPhone SE 4 boasts comprehensive upgrades in appearance, screen, performance, and functionality. It is expected to be released in spring 2025, with an anticipated price range of $459-$499, roughly equivalent to 3225-3506 yuan. It will continue the cost-effectiveness tradition of the iPhone SE series, offering users an upgraded experience.
