China's Smartphone Market Continues to Rebound, vivo Stays on Top, Apple Returns to Top 5
The latest quarterly mobile phone tracking report from International Data Corporation (IDC) shows that China's smartphone market shipments reached approximately 68.78 million units in the third quarter of 2024, representing a year-over-year growth of 3.2%, marking the fourth consecutive quarter of growth. This indicates a continuous rebound in China's smartphone market with consumers exhibiting a rising willingness to purchase.
The report reveals that the top five smartphone manufacturers in China for the third quarter of 2024 were vivo, Apple, Huawei, Xiaomi, and Honor, collectively accounting for 78.9% of the market share. Among them, vivo maintained its position as the market leader in China's smartphone market, attributing its success to its robust product strength and marketing strategies. The company also retained its top spot for total shipments in the first three quarters of the year.
Apple, riding on the launch of its annual new products, regained its place among the top five in the Chinese market with a market share of 15.6%. The introduction of new products and the brand's influence have once again resonated with consumers, with Apple's high-end products attracting more users.
Huawei's performance is also noteworthy. In the third quarter, Huawei achieved a market share of 15.3%, securing the third position. Since its return, Huawei has registered double-digit year-over-year growth for four consecutive quarters, demonstrating strong market competitiveness. Its leadership in 5G technology and powerful brand influence have laid a solid foundation for its future development.
Xiaomi's domestic market shipments have witnessed year-over-year growth for five consecutive quarters, propelling it to the fourth position in the third quarter with a market share of 14.8%. Xiaomi's competitive edge in the mid-to-low-end market stems from its value-for-money proposition and continuous product innovation. It is gradually challenging the high-end market segment.
Honor secured the fifth position with a market share of 14.6%. Its influence among young demographics is steadily growing, and its stylish designs and competitive pricing have garnered market recognition.
It's important to note that the average price of smartphones in the domestic market has seen a significant increase this year compared to last year. The market share of high-end smartphones priced above $600 in China reached 29.3% in the third quarter, representing a 3.7 percentage point increase compared to the same period last year. This signifies a growing consumer acceptance of high-end products and reflects the shift towards higher-value propositions within China's smartphone market.
Overall, China's smartphone market is experiencing continuous and healthy growth. Leading manufacturers, leveraging their strengths, are constantly expanding their market share and driving the market towards higher-value directions. In the future, China's smartphone market will emphasize innovation and differentiation, delivering more high-quality products and services to consumers.
