Qualcomm Snapdragon X1P-42-100 Processor Leaked: Only 64-bit Memory Bandwidth, Significantly Reduced GPU Performance

Blogger @JinZhuUpgradePackage recently posted on Weibo that, according to internal product documents they saw, Qualcomm's upcoming Snapdragon X1P-42-100 processor is based on a native 8-core chip design codenamed Purwa. Surprisingly, this processor only supports 64-bit memory bandwidth. This news means the GPU performance of the X1P-42-100 will be severely affected. Compared to the previously leaked 10-core X1P-64-100 processor, its GPU performance is significantly reduced, down to 1.7 TFLOPS, and the cache is also reduced to 30MB.

In contrast, the 10-core X1P-64-100 processor uses a trimmed-down version of the Hamoa chip, with a total cache of 42MB and GPU performance at 3.8 TFLOPS, the same as some XElite processors. While the X1P-42-100 processor still supports LPDDR5x-8448 memory, the single-channel memory bandwidth undoubtedly limits its performance, especially in the GPU section.

It is reported that the reason for the massive reduction in GPU performance of the X1P-42-100 is due to its support of only 64-bit memory bandwidth. A 64-bit memory bandwidth means that the data transfer bandwidth is halved, directly affecting the GPU's performance.

Besides the X1P-42-100, known leaker RolandQuandt (@rquandt) previously revealed that the X1P-39-100, also using an 8-core CPU, is also based on the Purwa chip. According to the Qualcomm Snapdragon X processor naming convention, the X1P-39-100 should be positioned lower than the X1P-42-100.

Currently, more details about the Qualcomm Snapdragon X1P-42-100 processor are yet to be announced, but its 64-bit memory bandwidth and significantly reduced GPU performance have already drawn widespread attention. For users pursuing ultimate performance, X1P-42-100 may not be the best choice. It remains to be seen which devices will ultimately be equipped with this processor.
