Nokia is making a major comeback with the introduction of HMDFusion, a smartphone designed to break free from the limitations of traditional designs through its modularity. HMDFusion boasts a unique array of interchangeable "FusionOutfits" that offer a range of practical features, from wireless charging and enhanced protection to selfie ring lights for live streaming. These outfits seamlessly attach via smart pins on the device's back, providing users with effortless swappability.

What's more, HMD has opened up the HMDFusion Development Kit, allowing users and third-party manufacturers to create their own designs using an open-source platform and 3D printing, unlocking even more possibilities for customization.

HMDFusion's aesthetic features a translucent plastic design and incorporates a user-friendly repair solution similar to the HMDSkyline. Users can quickly detach the battery, screen, and other key components, and HMD promises to provide spare parts through iFixit for seven years, ensuring long-term repairability.

In terms of hardware, HMDFusion packs a 6.56-inch IPS LCD screen with HD+ resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate, delivering a smooth visual experience. The front-facing camera boasts an impressive 50MP sensor, ideal for stunning selfies. On the back, there is a 108MP main camera paired with a 2MP depth assistant camera. The main sensor supports electronic image stabilization (EIS), dedicated night mode, RAW image processing, and AIHDR capabilities, ensuring exceptional photographic quality.

Underneath the hood, HMDFusion is powered by the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 chip, supported by 6/8GB of RAM and 128/256GB of internal storage, with expandable storage via a microSD card slot. Software-wise, HMDFusion runs on Android 14, with HMD promising two years of OS upgrades and three years of security updates, ensuring long-term software support.

For extended use, HMDFusion offers a 5000mAh battery with 33W fast charging, enabling users to power through the day with ease.

HMDFusion will be available for 249, launching first in European markets before making its way to the United States. This modular smartphone represents a new era in smartphone design, offering users a more personalized and flexible experience.
