According to 9to5Mac, citing "reliable sources," Apple's iPhone 16 Pro will be able to record 4K video at up to 120FPS, compared to the current iPhone 15 series which only supports 4K video recording at 60FPS. This upgrade will provide users with a smoother and more detailed video experience.

9to5Mac also adds that Apple has tested 8K video recording on the iPhone 16 Pro, but it's unclear if the feature will be enabled. The new iPhone 16 Pro will feature a new 48MP ultrawide sensor, and 8K images are about 35MP, so both the 48MP main camera and ultrawide on the iPhone 16 Pro support 8K video recording in terms of hardware, but the 12MP telephoto does not. However, considering that the iPhone 17 Pro Max will feature a 48MP telephoto sensor, 8K video recording may be exclusive to the Pro Max (IT Home Note: last year's Pro Max exclusive 5x optical zoom will be introduced to the Pro this year), or it might be saved for next year's iPhone.

In addition to video recording upgrades, the iPhone 16 Pro will also bring a range of new camera features:

  • Native camera support for pausing and resuming video recording: Users can have more flexible control over the video recording process, allowing for convenient shooting interruptions and continuations.

  • Video wind noise cancellation: Effectively reduces wind noise generated during shooting, enhancing video clarity and quality.
  • Multiple new photographic styles: Provides more shooting options to meet the diverse creative needs of users.
  • Skin tone preservation via machine learning: Improves portrait shooting results, ensuring natural and realistic skin tones.
  • Support for shooting lossy and lossless photos in JPEG-XL format: Brings higher compression efficiency and better image quality.

  • Multifunction camera button adaptation for third-party apps: Offers more shooting possibilities and provides more convenient control for third-party apps.
  • Spatial Photo mode: Captures spatial photos that can be viewed in 3D on Apple Vision Pro, providing a new immersive experience.

Overall, the iPhone 16 Pro's camera capabilities have been significantly enhanced, achieving breakthroughs in video recording frame rates and introducing numerous new features to provide users with richer shooting experiences and greater creative space. Whether the 8K video recording feature will ultimately be implemented and whether it will be exclusive to the Pro Max remains to be seen, waiting for official announcements from Apple.
