Tech media outlet 9to5Google published a blog post on October 29th announcing that Google is expanding the Gemini AI split-screen feature to more Android tablets and foldable phones. Previously, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 with OneUI 6.1.1 was the only Android device supporting Gemini split-screen. However, according to IT Home, citing multiple sources, several foldable phones and Android tablets now support Gemini AI split-screen, including Galaxy Tab series, older Galaxy Z Fold devices, Google Pixel Tablet, and Pixel 9 Pro Fold.
The Gemini split-screen feature allows users to use the AI chatbot side-by-side with any app, such as browsing the web or watching videos, while simultaneously utilizing Gemini to accomplish tasks. When the Gemini chat window is opened, a centered handle appears at the top of the window, allowing users to drag and place the Gemini window anywhere, including alongside the open application, above it, or below it.
Expanding the Gemini AI split-screen feature means users can enjoy the convenience of AI on a wider range of devices. For example, users can now simultaneously use Gemini to translate or search for information while reading an article on their tablet, thereby increasing efficiency. For foldable phone users, the Gemini split-screen feature allows them to utilize screen space more effectively, such as using Gemini to reply to emails or organize folders while reading emails.
The expansion of the Gemini AI split-screen feature also signifies Google's active push towards expanding AI applications and integrating AI closer to users' daily lives. With more devices supported, the Gemini AI split-screen feature is expected to become more prevalent, offering users greater convenience and potential for efficiency gains.
