Fast Technology, November 10 - According to media reports, Android 15 will introduce true Adaptive Refresh Rate (ARR) for the first time. This feature allows the refresh rate to be dynamically adjusted based on screen content, effectively reducing power consumption and enhancing the user experience. Currently, most Android phones support refresh rates exceeding 60Hz. While numerous manufacturers have touted variable refresh rate capabilities, they only offer switching between a few fixed refresh rates like 60Hz, 90Hz, or 120Hz. Moreover, Android systems haven't truly supported this technology until now.

The ARR feature in Android 15 provides a unified approach, enabling devices to adjust the refresh rate within the same display mode. Google states that ARR will let devices operate at rates below their maximum refresh rate, transitioning to higher rates only when the user experience is critical, thus minimizing unnecessary power consumption. This implies that a phone equipped with a 120Hz screen can lower its refresh rate to 60Hz or even lower when reading text or browsing the web, while boosting it to 120Hz when watching videos or playing games, achieving a balance between power consumption and smoothness.

Meanwhile, ARR improves performance by eliminating the need to change display modes, which Google claims is a known culprit for stuttering. This attribute will enhance the user experience for watching videos or gaming on the phone. Previously, phones had to switch display modes between different refresh rates, causing certain stutters and delays. ARR, however, can adjust the refresh rate in real-time based on content, circumventing this issue and resulting in a smoother user experience.

The introduction of ARR in Android 15 marks a true transformation of the refresh rate experience on Android phones. It not only effectively reduces power consumption, extending phone usage time, but also enhances phone smoothness, providing users with a superior experience. As Android 15 officially launches, we can expect the emergence of more phones equipped with ARR, ushering in a new era of user experience.
