Xiaomi 15 Pro "3000" Price Gaffe Aftermath: Lu Weibing Responds, Redmi K80 Series to Target 3000-4000 Yuan Price Range
Recently, the "3000" pricing blunder at the Xiaomi 15 series launch event has sparked widespread discussion. During the event, Lu Weibing, President of Xiaomi Group, mistakenly announced the price of the Xiaomi 15 Pro as "3000" instead of 5299 yuan, before correcting himself. The crowd erupted in cheers. Lu Weibing addressed the incident during a recent livestream.
Lu Weibing clarified that 3000 was not the actual cost of the Xiaomi 15 Pro. He explained that the cost increase of the Xiaomi 15 Pro far exceeded the price hike. During the rehearsal, the price wasn't finalized, and a placeholder was used. He also admitted that his throat was a bit sore at the time of the launch, leading to the error in his words.
In the livestream, Lu Weibing hinted at the pricing of the Redmi K80 series. He mentioned that prices starting with "3" would be handled by Redmi, indicating that the Redmi K80 series would be priced between 3000 and 4000 yuan.
It is reported that the Redmi K80 Pro will be among the first devices to feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy, while the standard K80 model is expected to be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset. The Redmi K80 Pro, in normal temperature conditions, achieved an Antutu score exceeding 3 million, surpassing two competitor models and making it the most powerful flagship device in Redmi's history.
Wang Teng, Product Director of Redmi, also revealed pricing information for the Redmi K80 Pro. He confirmed that the Redmi K80 Pro would be priced around 4000 yuan, setting a new price record for Redmi phones.
Currently, both the Redmi K80 Pro and the standard K80 have obtained network access approval. They will support 120W and 90W wired fast charging, respectively. The two models are scheduled for official release in November, offering consumers more choices alongside the Xiaomi 15 series.
This incident highlights the need for Xiaomi to pay more attention to detail regarding product pricing and event procedures to prevent similar blunders. The launch of the Redmi K80 series also signals Redmi's foray into the higher-end market, providing consumers with more options.
