Today, Redmi's official WeChat account was renamed to REDMI, with the "Redmi" lettering now in all caps, hinting at a brand upgrade on the horizon. According to leaks, Redmi will officially start teasing its K80 series next week, which includes two models: K80 and K80 Pro. The K80 Pro will feature the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, making it Redmi's most powerful flagship to date.
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor is built on TSMC's second-generation 3nm process (N3E) and is the first to use a dual ultra-core (2+6) design. Compared to the previous generation, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 boasts significant performance improvements. Its PC-level architecture features the highest frequency on mobile platforms, pushing the clock speed of its two super cores from 3.3GHz to 4.32GHz, a 31% increase. The performance cores also see a boost, rising from 3.2GHz to 3.53GHz, a 10% improvement.
Beyond the core architecture and clock speed upgrades, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 also features enhanced caching. The two super cores share 12MB of L2 cache, while the six performance cores share another 12MB, reaching a total of 24MB L2 cache. It also supports LPDDR5x memory with a maximum frequency of 5.3GHz.
In terms of display, the entire Redmi K80 series will feature 2K straight screens, expected to be supplied by Huaxing Optoelectronics. The series will adopt a centered punch-hole design, offering significant upgrades in brightness, eye protection, and display quality. Additionally, the K80 series will support ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensing, with the standard version supporting 90W fast charging and the Pro version offering 120W fast charging.
The Redmi K80 series is set to launch in November. Previously, Redmi General Manager Wang Teng hinted at a price increase for the series, possibly due to the powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor and upgraded configurations.
The Redmi K80 series is poised to reignite competition in the smartphone market. Equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, top-tier displays, and fast charging technology, the Redmi K80 series promises to be a new benchmark for performance and user experience. Let's wait and see if the Redmi K80 series can achieve even greater success.
