Recently, a fan-made render of the Redmi K80 surfaced online, showcasing a pop-up full-screen design. However, Xiaomi product manager Wang Teng responded, stating that the Redmi K80 will not adopt a pop-up camera. He explained that the pop-up camera design significantly impacts the overall design of the phone, hence the Redmi K80 series will continue to utilize the punch-hole display design.

Looking back, the Redmi K20 series, Redmi K30 Pro, and Redmi K30 Supreme Edition all featured pop-up cameras, achieving a true full-screen experience without notches or holes. This solution involved a mechanical mechanism within the phone to conceal the front camera inside the body, only emerging when needed. This design was appreciated by many users at the time and became a mainstream trend in the mobile industry.

However, with the arrival of the 5G era, the pop-up camera design gradually lost its market advantage. This is because 5G phones require more complex radio frequency chips and antenna modules, which demand more internal space. The pop-up camera design, within the limited internal space of the phone, negatively affects the layout and performance of other key components.

Furthermore, the pop-up camera design has certain drawbacks. Firstly, current technology has not yet reached a point where the pop-up camera assembly can be miniaturized effectively. Installing this mechanical apparatus within the phone body significantly increases the thickness of the device. Secondly, the reliability of the pop-up camera's mechanical structure is also a concern, as it may malfunction after prolonged use, preventing the camera from operating properly.

Due to these reasons, major brands have shifted towards the more optimized punch-hole display solution. The punch-hole display allows for a high screen-to-body ratio while effectively controlling the phone's thickness and weight. It also boasts superior reliability.

While the Redmi K80 will not feature a pop-up camera, it is expected that Xiaomi will continue to innovate in other areas, bringing a superior user experience to consumers.
