Xiaomi 15 Series Screen Analysis: Amber Screen, Micro-cavity Structure, Double Boost in Brightness and Power Consumption

The Xiaomi 15 series and Xiaomi Pengpai OS 2 new product launch event are scheduled to be held on October 29th at 7:00 PM. Previously, the official has announced the appearance of the Xiaomi 15/Pro models. Today, a detailed interpretation of the screen form and display effect of the Xiaomi 15 series mobile phones is provided.

The Xiaomi 15 series continues the "full-screen" design concept. The official stated that the key to realizing "full-screen" lies in the application of flexible screens and COP (ChipOnPi) technology. However, on flexible screens, in order to protect the COP circuit, a certain distance needs to be reserved between the glue position and the COP bending area during screen installation, resulting in a wider bottom bezel than the other three sides.

Xiaomi 15 has made a breakthrough in achieving a four-sided equal 1.38mm bezel, which the official calls the "Amber Screen." Inspired by amber, it utilizes LIPO encapsulation technology to protect the COP wiring, just like amber can perfectly protect insects inside after solidification. Liquid photosensitive resin solidifies into a solid after blue light irradiation, thus protecting the COP wiring inside.

Xiaomi 15 comes standard with a 460PPI 1.5K screen, while the Pro version comes standard with a 521PPI 2K screen. Compared to the 1.5K screen of the Xiaomi 14, the 2K screen of the Xiaomi 15 Pro has reduced the overall screen power consumption by 24% while maintaining almost the same power consumption.

The screen panel of the Xiaomi 15 series adopts a double-layer "micro-cavity" structure. According to the different wavelengths of RGB pixels, corresponding double micro-cavity structures are designed to "purify" light and increase light efficiency. This structure does not require additional current and does not reduce the viewing angle, meaning that under the same power consumption, brightness is increased; or under the same brightness, power consumption is reduced.

The official pointed out that some manufacturers have recently advertised 4000 and 5000 nit brightness, which is actually just a numbers game. This is achieved only under the condition of APL (Average Percentage of Luminant Pixels) at 1%, extremely high outdoor brightness, and HDR source playback. Such stringent conditions are disconnected from actual user scenarios and are purely "self-indulgent" claims from manufacturers.

The peak brightness of the Xiaomi 15 series is 3200 nit, achieved with an APL of approximately 25%, significantly expanding the triggering scenarios for peak brightness and better aligning with the actual needs of users.

Its "Amber Screen" and double-layer "micro-cavity" structure have achieved significant results in terms of enhancing brightness and reducing power consumption.
