On October 18th, Qualcomm announced on Tuesday its partnership with Google to manufacture wearable devices such as smartwatches using chips based on RISC-V technology.
RISC-V is an open source technology that competes with the expensive proprietary technology of British chip design company Arm. RISC-V can be used to manufacture smartphone chips and advanced artificial intelligence processors.
Despite concerns expressed by lawmakers about other countries using the open cooperation culture between American companies to promote their semiconductor industry, American companies are still actively promoting RISC-V based technologies.
Qualcomm plans to commercialize RISC-V based wearable device solutions worldwide, including in the United States.
Qualcomm stated that this will help more products in the Android ecosystem utilize low-power, high-performance custom processors. (Small)
