On November 16th, a new study by renowned research firm Pew Research Center showed that the proportion of US users regularly accessing news on TikTok has increased from 22% a year ago to 43% in 2023. Research has found that at least half of American adults obtain news content from social media.

Currently, major news organizations are competing for the attention and advertising budget of users on TikTok and other social media platforms. Many news organizations are striving to attract TikTok's large Z-generation user base.

Between September 25 and October 1, 2023, the Pew Research Center conducted a survey of 8842 American adults and analyzed their access to news. The results showed that 67% of respondents would use news websites or applications.

In addition, the Pew Research Center found that Meta's Facebook is the most popular news social media platform, with 30% of Americans saying they frequently browse news through Facebook, followed by YouTube (26%), Instagram (16%), and TikTok (14%).

In recent years, Meta has been deliberately reducing news and other content on its social media platforms, but the habit of people accessing news on Facebook still exists.

In addition, data from the Pew Research Center also shows that users who access regular news on Nexttool, Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok are more likely to be women, while users who access regular news on YouTube under Reddit, X, LinkedIn, and Alphabet are more likely to be men.

Finally, data from the Pew Research Center also indicates that users of social media platform X (formerly Twitter) led by Elon Musk who access regular news are roughly divided into two factions, with 46% supporting or leaning towards the Republican Party and 49% supporting or leaning towards the Democratic Party.
