Apple has been working on its next-generation iPhone SE, which is rumored to launch sometime next year, according to Bloomberg. Reliable sources from 9to5Mac have provided us with more details about the iPhone SE4. Unlike the current iPhone SE, which sports the iPhone 8 design, the new iPhone SE will feature a more modern design similar to the iPhone 14. This includes flat sides, and an OLED panel with a notch.
Sources confirm the codename V59 iPhone SE4 will employ the same 1170x2532 display resolution as the 6.1-inch iPhone 14. Apple will also introduce Face ID to the iPhone SE4, marking the end of the Home button with Touch ID on iPhones. However, the "Dynamic Island" will remain a feature reserved for higher-end models. Earlier reports had suggested that Apple wanted the new SE to be compatible with Apple Intelligence, and sources claim this is achieved thanks to the A18 chip paired with 8GB of RAM. Apple will be using the same latest SoC variant as the base iPhone 16, which features a 5-core GPU.
In terms of cameras, the iPhone SE4 will have the same 48MP wide-angle camera and 12MP front camera as the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus. However, we hear the new SE won't be equipped with an ultrawide or telephoto lens. Apple is likely to leverage the benefits of the 48MP sensor, claiming the new SE can shoot 2x optical zoomed photos.
Another major highlight of the iPhone SE4 will be Apples first self-developed 5G modem. The company acquired Intels modem division in 2019, aiming to replace Qualcomms modems. But multiple reports have revealed that Apples in-house developed modem prototypes have faced several hurdles. Still, Apple seems confident in finally bringing its first 5G modem to market. Sources from 9to5Mac claim that V59 is equipped with an Apple-designed wireless modem. This modem, codenamed Centauri, is ambitious, as it also handles Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS signals simultaneously.
Having its own modem is a boon for Apple in terms of finances, but the company will also leverage it to improve integration between hardware and software. The new modem will significantly reduce battery drain, especially when users turn on low-power mode on their iPhones. While Apples plan is to eventually use its own modems across all devices, the company chose to first deploy it in the iPhone SE4 as a trial run.
In line with other sources, weve heard that the iPhone SE4 will launch in spring 2025. While the current iPhone SE starts at $429, analysts believe the next-generation model will be more expensive, potentially ranging from $459 to $499.
