In an interview, Minister Scindia stated that the government's decision aligns with global trends, emphasizing that allocation would lower the barrier to entry and foster competition. He explained the limitations of current satellite communication technology, bound by line-of-sight requirements, making it difficult to replicate the indoor service experience of terrestrial networks. "Once you enter this building, the signal is gone," Minister Scindia illustrated.

Reliance Jio, one of India's three telecom giants (along with Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea), had advocated for an open auction of satellite spectrum. Having previously invested $19 billion in spectrum auctions, the company worries that allocation could allow new entrants like Starlink to acquire spectrum at lower costs, impacting its market share. Reliance Jio Chairman Mukesh Ambani had previously expressed his hope for a level playing field, fearing unfair competition resulting from administrative allocation.
