Since Apple announced the launch of the M-series self-developed chips in 2020, which fully replaced the x86 processors in the original product line, it has had a significant impact on the development of the entire industry. Although there have been reports before that Apple does not plan to release M3 chips this year due to production issues at TSMC and will wait until 2024, the introduction of the 3nm process has raised many expectations for the M3 series

Since Apple announced the launch of the M-series self-developed chips in 2020, which fully replaced the x86 processors in the original product line, it has had a significant impact on the development of the entire industry. Although there have been reports before that Apple does not plan to release M3 chips this year due to production issues at TSMC and will wait until 2024, the introduction of the 3nm process has raised many expectations for the M3 series.

According to relevant media reports, Apple is testing the M3Pro chip, which is equipped with 12 cores in the CPU section, including 6 performance cores and 6 energy efficiency cores, 18 cores in the GPU section, and an additional 36GB of onboard memory. In addition to M3 and M3Pro, Apple will also bring M3Max and M3Ultra in the future, with clearly higher specifications. It is rumored that M3Max has 14 CPU cores and 40 GPU cores, while M3Ultra has 28 CPU cores and 80 GPU cores.

It is understood that developers are testing M3Pro based systems to ensure compatibility with third-party applications. This is also one of the most common and reliable methods and steps before Apple released new chips in the past. By utilizing TSMC's 3nm technology, Apple can add more transistors and provide more cores in the same chip size. Additionally, the frequency may also be increased, and there may be improvements in the architecture.

It is reported that the first batch of Mac products equipped with M3 chips will be launched in early 2024 and will appear on the iMac, MacBookPro, and MacBookAir product lines. Recently, Apple released its financial report for the second quarter of the 2023 fiscal year, showing revenue for the MacBook product line at $7.168 billion, a 31% decrease from a year ago. The performance of the M2 series chips is not satisfactory, and Apple may be counting on the M3 series chips and new Mac products to boost sales.
