Although ArrowLake still has a considerable amount of time to come, Intel, in order to prepare its ISV ecosystem for emerging technologies in future microarchitectures, mentioned in the instruction set reference guide released in July this year that ArrowLake will support a series of instruction sets, including AVX-VNNI-INT16, SHA512, SM3, and SM4.

Recently, some netizens discovered that the instruction set supported by ArrowLake chips for desktop and mobile platforms is different, and ArrowLake-S for the former will support more instruction sets. Generally speaking, it is normal for server processors to support instruction sets that client processors do not support, but this situation is relatively rare for ArrowLake.

It is understood that the ArrowLake-SAVX-VNNI-INT16, SHA512, SM3, and SM4 instruction sets that support LGA1851 sockets will also support LBR event logging functionality. However, Intel does not provide the above support on chips on mobile platforms, and the specific reason is currently unclear. Some speculate that it may be due to the ultra-low power x86 core of mobile platform chips, which prevents Intel from enabling these features on computing modules.

AVX-VNNI-INT16 focuses on AI workloads, used to accelerate convolutional neural networks and deep learning workloads, and is very useful for generative artificial intelligence applications. As for SHA512, SM3, and SM4, they are all aimed at improving security and encryption capabilities. SHA512 is a widely used encrypted hash function that allows for enhanced data integrity and security during data transmission. In addition, there are SM3 and SM4 encryption hash algorithms, mainly applied in China.
