On October 22nd, it was reported that Pu Deyu, an analyst at Haitong International Securities, recently believed that Apple is expected to integrate generative artificial intelligence technology into iPhones and iPads as early as the end of 2024.

Pu Deyu stated in his research report that according to a survey of Apple's supply chain, Apple will achieve this goal by setting up thousands of artificial intelligence servers in the next two years.

Pu Deyu predicts that Apple will combine cloud based artificial intelligence with "edge artificial intelligence" for processing data on local devices. Apple is still determining how to legally and compliant use customer personal data, so it may take some time to see the debut of Apple's own artificial intelligence AppleGPT.

If everything goes according to plan, Apple may introduce generative artificial intelligence starting from iOS18 and iPad OS18 by the end of 2024. The specific form of this technology is still uncertain.

In July of this year, there were reports that Apple had built an Ajax large-scale language model development framework and was secretly developing its own artificial intelligence "AppleGPT". However, in reality, Apple's focus on generative artificial intelligence was much earlier than most people believed.

Four years ago, John Giannandrea, Apple's director of artificial intelligence, authorized the formation of a team to develop conversational artificial intelligence, also known as the Big Language Model.

According to reports, when the artificial intelligence chat robot ChatGPT was launched, Apple's artificial intelligence team also began to increase investment. In order to promote the development of big language models, Apple not only significantly increased research funding, even burning tens of millions of dollars every day, but also recruited many engineers from Google. Apple employees unanimously believe that their Apple GPT is stronger than GPT-3.5.

With such a powerful language model, Apple is sure to make significant upgrades to its product line.

In September of this year, it was reported that Apple plans to integrate this large language model into Siri Voice Assistant, allowing users to automatically perform complex tasks. Apple plans to deeply integrate this feature into its shortcut key application, which is expected to be released in the 2024 iPhone software update and may become a key feature of iOS18.

It is worth noting that due to Siri's "cumbersome design", Apple may need a considerable amount of time to update the database in order to support new artificial intelligence features. A former Apple engineer mentioned that adding a new phrase requires rebuilding the Siri database, which may take up to six weeks, while adding more complex features such as search tools may take over a year.

Apple CEO Tim Cook once said in an interview, "We have been committed to generative artificial intelligence for many years and have conducted extensive research. We will treat this technology with caution and fully recognize the potential issues of abuse and bias
