According to Wccftech, NVIDIA did not develop ARM processors for client PCs alone, but chose to collaborate with MediaTek and will use TSMC's CoWoS packaging on its first product. It is rumored that the first batch of new chips packaged in 2.5D are planned to be produced in the second quarter of 2024 and will be used for testing, with the ultimate goal of entering the high-end laptop market.
Nvidia does not lack experience in developing SoC. The Tegra series has been in development for a considerable period of time in the past, while the Orin series with similar designs also has many applications in artificial intelligence (AI) and robot applications. In addition, NVIDIA also has superchips such as GraceHopperSuperchip, which combines the Hopper architecture GPU with the Arm architecture GraceCPU, and uses NVLink C2C to connect the two for use in high-performance computing environments.
MediaTek also has rich experience in the laptop market, and the Kompanio series of chips are used in a few Chromebook products. It is speculated that NVIDIA and MediaTek will jointly design the customized CPU part, while NVIDIA will complete the GPU part alone.
